In March 2020, 202 hours of sunshine were measured at the observation station in Vienna (Hohe Warte). That was 42 percent more than the long-standing norm (source: statista). Regarding precipitation, there was 59 percent less than the long-standing norm in Vienna in the same period (source: statista). These values support the statements of climate researchers, who predict an increasing trend in temperatures for the coming decades.
Long-lasting heat waves with temperatures of up to 38 ° C were no exception last summer, but already the norm. Vienna is one of the top 5 cities in Europe that suffer particularly badly from global warming. Summer 2019 was the second warmest summer since measurements began in 1767. In the capital cities of Vienna, St. Pölten, Linz, Eisenstadt and Klagenfurt – summer 2019 ended as the hottest in the respective measurement history.
In recent years, numerous measures for cooling with outdoor cooling such as fog showers have already been implemented in Vienna and further projects are already planned and are about to be implemented. The mode of operation of mist showers is also known as “evaporative cooling”. Water is pressed through fine nozzles at very high pressure (70 bar), creating fog. Sudden evaporation occurs, which lowers the ambient temperature because the water needs energy to evaporate.
These modern high-pressure fog systems are versatile and can be used in both commercial and private areas – sidewalk gardens, terraces, gardens, pool areas, event locations / centers and the like. v. m. High-pressure mist systems / mist showers are characterized by their low water and energy consumption. They enable refreshingly noticeable cooling down to -10 ° C.
